Having to serve time made many things about Todd and Julie Chrisley’s timeline pretty complicated.
The two have recently explained why they didn’t finalize adopting their daughter Chloe until shortly before being imprisoned.
Todd and Julie Chrisley have returned to the silver screen with their new show The Chrisleys: Back to Reality – and they’re not wasting any time filling fans in on their lives.
On the premiere episode, Todd and Julie explained the process of finalizing their adoption of their daughter Chloe.
“Chloe is the biological child of Todd’s oldest son,” Julie explained on the episode. “Once we found out that she even existed, of course, we wanted to be a part of her life.”
Savannah chimed in with her memories of the complicated time.
“Her mother let us have her every other weekend, and then every other weekend turned into every other week. And then I’ll never forget her calling my parents one day saying, ‘I need you to come get Chloe, we don’t have anywhere to stay and I can’t have her sleep in the car,” she recalled.
”Then she signed over custody completely,” Savannah explained.
She clearly thinks this change was for the best.
“Everyone goes through their own life experiences. Chloe is living a much better life than she would have ever thought about living,” Savannah shared.
But Todd didn’t terminate Kyle’s rights, Savannah explained, as he believed Chloe was his “son’s daughter.”
“The adoption was actually never made final until maybe a month or two before mom and dad left,” Savannah explained.
“My dad could never bring himself to do it and to terminate their rights,” she explained of Chloe’s biological parents.

“But they had to do that to make sure that when they left, that Kyle or Angela couldn’t come back and get her,” Savannah continued.
“Obviously, she was going to be left in my care.”
Savannah spent the years of Todd and Julie’s imprisonment as the caretaker of Chloe and her younger brother Grayson.
“Oh, I’ve always been attached to Savannah’s hip,” Grayson said of his big sister during the episode.
“Like I used to have this thing, I don’t know why I did it, but I called my mom ‘Mom One’ and called my sister ‘Mom Two,’ ” he shared. And I would yell, ‘Mom,’ and they would both respond.”
