Todd and Julie Chrisley have spent years being open with fans about their lives. Now that they’re free once again, they’re getting even more personal about their time behind bars.
Now, the couple is sharing the most difficult thing about their time in prison, and it’s leaving fans heartbroken.
Todd and Julie Chrisley did not enjoy their time in prison – but who does?
Since being pardoned, the Chrisleys have been opening up about their highs of being reunited with their family, and their lows of reflecting on their time behind bars.
And the most difficult thing about being in prison is hard for fans to think about.
Appearing on the latest episode of Kaitlyn Bristowe’s Off the Vine, Julie and Todd shared how hard it was to communicate with each other while behind bars.
It’s clear this distance took a heavy toll on them.
“We were able to email, but the email was very sporadic and it would take, sometimes two, three days for me to get an email or him to get an email,” Julie shared on the episode.
She said that she and Todd “did not speak” as a result.
But it’s not just one another who they were estranged from.
Julie shared that the “biggest challenge” of being behind bars was not being with their children.
“We’re parents,” Julie explained on the episode.
“We were still raising kids, and even adult kids, they still need their parents. And it has always been us against them, because we’ve always been outnumbered, so it’s always been us against them.
“So not being able to talk and collaborate and say, ‘Okay, how are we going to handle this situation?’ Because you do try to parent as much as you can.”
She shared that it was difficult juggling her communication with Todd and her children, all of which was greatly limited.
“You have to, at that point, decide which child you’re going to talk to, who needs you the most that day,” Julie explained.
“[Todd is[ my person. Not having your person there when you’re having a bad day, when you’re having a good day, when, you know, a birthday comes or a holiday,” she recalled.
“Those are big deals at our house,” Julie added. “They’ve always been. So that was the hardest part for me.”
Todd reflected on happy memories to get through these hard times.
“I give glory to God for this because my mind is so strong and I remember the first date that we ever had,” he recalled on the podcast.
“I remember the first kiss. I mean, I’m the one who keeps the first ticket stubs from the movie that we went to,” he confessed. “I remember everything about our relationship, so those memories kept me going.”
