I’m Convinced The Below Deck Sailing Yacht Cast Needs To Be Retooled Following Gary King’s Bad Behavior Last Season (Some Fresh Faces Are Needed)
Gary King has caused a lot of trouble on Below Deck Sailing Yacht, and I’m convinced that the entire cast needs to be retooled after his consistent bad behavior. Ahead of Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 6, I think now is the time for Bravo to recast the show aside from Captain Glenn Shephard. Gary’s poison has spread throughout the crew, beginning with his toxic friendship and romance with Chief Stew Daisy Kelliher.
Gary proved he couldn’t handle sobriety when he deliberately disobeyed Captain Glenn’s two-drink limit during the crew outing with guests. Instead of owning up to his actions, he made excuses. He also hurt Chief Engineer Davide Morosi, getting blood all over a white couch, and tried to undermine Daisy’s relationship with relaxed, even-keeled Deckhand Keith Allen. Gary needs to go, but so does everyone else. Here’s why.
Gary Caused Too Much Drama Last Season, And Seasons Prior
It’s Not Even Entertaining Anymore
Gary caused too much drama on Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5, but he’s always been a troublemaker on the show. Back in seasons 2 and 3, Gary set the tone early by hooking up with Deckhand Sydney Zaruba on the first night. While he claimed it was a one-time thing, Sydney developed deeper feelings, leading to a messy dynamic when Gary began pursuing Stew Alli Dore. The love triangle created tension on board, especially as Sydney and Alli struggled to work alongside one another.
However, that was just the beginning. He found himself in another complicated situation, this time with Stew Ashley Marti in season 3. Ashley was openly flirtatious and pursued Gary despite knowing he was also entertaining attention from others on board. But the most surprising romantic twist came late in the season when Gary shared a hot tub kiss with Daisy, which ultimately led to the love triangle with Colin Macrae in season 4. I think it’s obvious the common denominator in all of these situations was Gary, who was always causing undue trouble.
Gary Has Become A Liability Following His Lawsuit
Bravo Needs To Cut Ties
I’m honestly surprised that Bravo hasn’t already cut ties with Gary, given his lawsuit. During filming for Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 4, former Bravo employee Samantha Suarez lodged sexual misconduct allegations against Gary, and while the network tried to handle the issue quietly, news of his misbehavior arose. Bravo gave Gary a slap on the wrist by uninviting him to BravoCon in 2023, but he was still a main character in Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5. Gary claimed he was edited out and denied allegations, but he’s still become a liability between the legal accusations and past behavior.
Below Deck Sailing Yacht Needs New Faces Onboard In General
It Could Be An Exciting Reboot
I think Below Deck Sailing Yacht needs more new faces onboard in general. Daisy and Gary’s drama was redundant and stale in the latest season. Meanwhile, Stew Danni Warren, while annoying, added some much-needed spice to the interior crew. Additionally, bringing Chase Lemacks back as a nemesis for Gary was a pleasant surprise. I think Danni, Captain Glenn, and maybe Chase should come back. Other than that, I’d love to see a complete recast of the Bravo spinoff. Soon, everyone will forget Gary and move on to more worthy cast members.
