A palace aide told Newsweek that the queen corresponded with Madame Pelicot privately and they shared some poignant insight into the interaction: “As a long-term supporter of survivors of domestic and sexual abuse, it was very much her instigation and determination to write to express support from the highest level.”

Last December, Pelicot’s ex-husband, Dominique, “was convicted of aggravated rape and other charges, and following a monthslong trial, the court found 46 accomplices guilty of rape, two of attempted rape, and two of sexual assault.”
