A Message from the Queen

According to sources, Princess Anne shared the Queen’s message during a recent private gathering with royal family members. Queen Camilla Thanks French Domestic Abuse Survivor Gisèle Pelicot for Her Courage

British royal family news reveals that Queen Camilla has been a supporter of domestic violence awareness organizations for over ten years. During that time she has made supporting DV survivors a key aim of her royal work.

As such Queen Camilla has helped to raise awareness about DV by hosting public receptions and giving speeches.

The subject matter is a personal one for the queen as she has shared in the past that members of her own family have experienced domestic abuse. Here is how Camilla is going the extra mile to raise awareness and support others who have experienced DV.

Camilla Goes The Extra Mile for DV Victims

On Wednesday, Buckingham Palace confirmed that the queen was in contact with Gisèle Pelicot, the French woman who testified against her abusive husband in a high-profile rape trial in 2024.

A palace aide told Newsweek that the queen corresponded with Madame Pelicot privately and they shared some poignant insight into the interaction: “As a long-term supporter of survivors of domestic and sexual abuse, it was very much her instigation and determination to write to express support from the highest level.”

The French case stunned the public as details of the trial became public. Last December, Pelicot’s ex-husband, Dominique, “was convicted of aggravated rape and other charges, and following a monthslong trial, the court found 46 accomplices guilty of rape, two of attempted rape, and two of sexual assault.”

During the trial details emerged showed that the monster drugged his wife and allowed other men to have intercourse with her.

According to the Daily Mail, Pelicot appeared each day of the trail in the courtroom and became “an international symbol of bravery in the process.”

Queen Camilla Works Tirelessly for Victims of DV

The palace aide stated that Camilla was “tremendously affected” by Pelicot’s “extraordinary dignity and courage as she put herself in the public eye.”

They added that the survivor brought attention to “a very significant societal problem despite all the personal suffering she’d been through.”

A 2024 ITV documentary titled Her Majesty the Queen: Behind Closed Doors, highlighted Camilla’s advocacy efforts.

In the show she said that she got involved with domestic violence organizations in part because she could not look the other way: “One of the most difficult things about domestic abuse to understand—it’s not the bruises and the black eyes, which unfortunately you see through violence.”

She added “This is something that creeps up very slowly and, far too often, it ends up with women being killed.”

Kudos to the queen for providing an avenue of awareness into this terrible circumstance that affects men as well as women.
