8 Signs Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5 Could Be The Final One Of The Series (Did Gary & Danni’s Bad Behavior Ruin The Show?)

Below Deck Sailing Yachtseason 5 was one of the most highly anticipated shows of the year, but the series has been struggling so massively that it could easily be the final season. As Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 4 ended, viewers were already incredibly excited for the idea of the next season. The series, a spin-off of the original Below Deck, has been primarily focused on the crew of Parsifal III, led by Captain Glenn Shephard. While Captain Glenn works with a similar crew in the on and off seasons, he’s a big part of the series.
Throughout the hiatus between Below Deck Sailing Yacht seasons, viewers were excited at the idea of being able to see the crew working together the way they have in the past. While the last season heavily featured the love triangle between Chief Stew Daisy Kelliher, Chief Engineer Colin MacRae, and First Officer Gary King, viewers knew that going into the next season of the series, Colin wouldn’t be returning to the show. Instead, Daisy and Gary would have to face the fallout of the last season of the show while getting to know an entirely new crew.
As viewers were waiting for Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5, however, some news surrounding Gary dropped that brought the Bravo-sphere to its knees. While many thought that Gary was going to be pulled out of the season mid-way through when his sexual misconduct scandal came to light, the show continued filming for the season, then remained untouched for nearly a year. When it became clear that Gary would be a part of Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5, many were shocked, especially considering Bravo pulled him from a Bravo fan-fest lineup for the allegations merely surfacing.
While Gary has been part of Below Deck Sailing Yachtthis season, he’s been edited out for the majority of the drama of the season, likely to limit his amount of screentime after the assault allegations. Despite Gary not having a ton to do on Below Deck Sailing Yacht this season, his poor perception combined with the difficult behavior of stew Danni Warren, who’s new to the show, has been tough on viewers. Many are curious about the future of the show, understanding that it’s been a difficult season that could potentially be the show’s last.
Throughout Below Deck Sailing Yacht‘s most recent season, it’s been notable that Gary’s screentime has been as minimal as possible. This, unfortunately, is by design due to the allegations of sexual misconduct that came out about the First Officer between this season of the series and the one prior. Gary was accused of sexual misconduct by a Below Deck franchise makeup artist during a promotional shoot day, and while he’s vehemently denied the allegations, they’re still something that viewers have taken seriously.
While Gary has been doing his best to try and maintain his reputation on social media, it’s clear that the network took these allegations to heart and wanted it known that they were taking action. Even though Bravo didn’t eliminate Gary from the series or edit him out, he’s had minimal screen time this season. Despite knowing that he’s still in hot water, Gary has been trying to maintain his innocence. Regardless, the allegations have damaged his reputation beyond repair.
7Daisy Seems Over Her Chief Stew Gig
She Hasn’t Been Working To Full Capacity
Although Daisy has been called one of the best Chief Stews in the Below Deck franchise, her time aboard Parsifal III this season hasn’t been something she’s been too proud of. Instead of working well with her team, Daisy has been having a hard time connecting with her stews and herself, in some ways. After a tough season last year, Daisy came into Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 on the heels of a bad breakup and a difficult layer of tension with herself and Gary.
As a result, Daisy hasn’t been interested in her job throughout the season, even though she’s been pretending that it’s something important to her. With Danni and Diana Cruz, Daisy’s stews of the season, consistently ganging up on her to try and undermine her authority or make her life more difficult, Daisy’s been struggling. While she knows how to do her job, Daisy’s had a tough time working her way through the season as a competent Chief Stew.
6Danni Acted Too Self-Important
She’s Been Trying To Replace Daisy
Throughout the early moments of the season, it seemed likely that Danni was going to be the stew that worked the best with Daisy, but that quickly changed course. Even in the earliest charters, Danni had difficulty taking orders from her Chief Stew. Despite knowing the way that superyachts work, Danni’s been struggling to deal with the order of things aboard Parsifal III. Without any real reason, she’s found listening to Daisy to be too tough for her day-to-day, making her difficult to manage.
While Danni has had some moments where she’s not entirely wrong about Daisy’s orders being over the top or ill-timed, Danni has also been outrageously wrong in other moments. Finding herself too important to be managed, Danni has pulled Diana over to her side and recruited her to be a thorn in Daisy’s side. While Danni has her moments of clarity, it’s obvious she’s trying to stir up trouble.
Danni Never Respected Daisy
She Doesn’t Pay The Chief Stew Any Mind
Throughout the season, it’s been clear that Danni has had a vendetta against Daisy in a way that makes it impossible for them to work together. Danni, who has just a few years of yachting industry experience under her belt, has been having a hard time doing her job correctly, but she hasn’t been able to follow any of the instructions Daisy’s given throughout the season. With such a lack of respect for her superior, it’s honestly shocking to see Danni still aboard Parsifal III.
Danni’s lack of respect for Daisy has caused her to undermine the Chief Stew’s authority several times throughout the season, which hasn’t been easy for anyone to watch. Though Daisy seems out of it and uninterested in her job, Danni has been working hard to ensure that she also looks like she doesn’t really know what she’s doing. Danni’s difficulties with Daisy have made Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 somewhat unbearable to watch.
4Diana Has Called Daisy Out For Being A Bad Boss
She’s Been Difficult Toward Daisy’s Authority
3Captain Glenn Received Some Backlash This Season
His Ego Has Gotten Too Large
Throughout the season, viewers have also seen a new side of Captain Glenn that they haven’t been enjoying very much. While the captain has traditionally been one of the quieter, hands-off captains in the franchise, Glenn has been more present and more difficult this season. After a charter season where the majority of his crew has faced difficulty in one way or another, Glenn’s ego being so large has been a strange, off-putting byproduct of the drama.
Though Below Deck Sailing Yacht does follow Captain Glenn’s crew, it’s been clear that he’s not the best when it comes to a crisis, especially something more interpersonal. Glenn has had difficulties with Daisy this season that feel less urgent than the issues he should be addressing with someone like Gary. Even so, his ego has been too big for the level of work he’s been showing this charter season.
With Gary’s drama finally coming to light, viewers have been far less interested in seeing him on screen this season than ever before. While Gary’s behavior has been difficult for years, someone genuinely calling him out for alleged sexual misconduct has allowed those who simply felt bad energy from him to actually have a reason to distance themselves. As many have been less interested in Gary, the minimal screen time he’s gotten has been good, but the fact that he’s still part of the show hasn’t.
Gary being on Below Deck Sailing Yacht at all has made the show less interesting to watch, and many have found themselves not bothering to tune into the show with him still part of the cast. Moving forward, Gary being part of the show if it should continue would push even more viewers away. Without his drama, the show falters, but viewers aren’t interested in seeing his stories anymore.
1Danni’s Power Trip Has Grown Stale
Her Behavior Has Gotten Boring To Watch
Although Danni’s difficulties with Daisy have made for some interesting stories, the frequency of her insubordination and her constant complaints about her boss have made the show nearly unwatchable. Viewers aren’t tuning in to see one of their favorite yachties get consistently complained about, and Danni has chosen to make an enemy out of someone with a large following. With her behavior continually leaning toward vitriol, Danni has made herself one of the most irritating parts of the season.
Should the show continue, Danni would be one of the cast members who would be least likely to continue on the show. After her showing this season, it’s clear that Danni’s not fit to work aboard the sailing yacht’s crew, and her behavior has shown that the pressure is simply too much for her. Even so, the power trip Danni’s on now has made Below Deck Sailing Yacht unbearable.
