Below Deck Down Under star Ben Robinson says the experience of helping a pair of charter guests celebrate a special occasion onboard was “triggering” for him.

In the March 30 episode of the Bravo reality series, wedding bells were ringing on the Katina as primary guests Clay and Marc said “I do” again during a sunset vow-renewal ceremony and dinner on deck. As the superyacht crew prepared for the happy occasion, Robinson, 45, couldn’t help but think of his broken engagement with ex-fiancée Kiara Cabral.

“Oh, I just missed one. It was my own,” the professional chef quipped of his canceled wedding to Cabral. “Clearly, tonight’s dinner is reminiscently triggering for me, but I’m going to put my thoughts behind me.”

Robinson then joked that he had “already ruined one wedding,” adding, “And I’m damned if I’m gonna ruin another.”

Robinson announced his split from Cabral on Instagram in September 2024, writing, “I am no longer getting married… We have decided to go our separate ways, and I think that this is the best decision for both of us. I would rather not discuss the reasons behind these decisions, but I feel it’s important for me to express my circumstance.”

The two had gotten engaged in 2023 after four years of dating, with Robinson declaring himself “the luckiest man alive” when he announced the news at the time.

The reality star previously got emotional about ending his engagement during the Feb. 16 episode of Below Deck Down Under. He admitted in a tearful confessional, “I was meant to get married last year. And I caught her — she had been seeing one of my friends for a very long time.”

He shared the story after getting upset during a crew game of “Shag, Marry, Kill,” in which sous chef Alesia Harris and chief stew Daisy Kelliher both opted to “kill” Robinson.

“I’m just really sensitive right now. I just… I’m more sensitive because everyone’s just f—ing let me down, that’s why,” he said of his reaction to the game, admitting that he lacks “faith in humanity” after the painful experience with his ex.

Further reflecting on his emotional reaction to the game during the after-show, Robinson said, “I think that maybe I wasn’t quite healed.”

“Well, that’s the thing. You never know until you scratch that emotional surface,” he continued. “I was away from the reclusion of my otherwise reclusive life, but you never know until you put yourself back in the field.”
