John Reardon shared some devastating news with Hearties. The When Calls the Heart alum announced that he had tonsil cancer. In an update posted around Christmastime, John opened up about the health battle he’s kept secret. Despite the grim news, there’s still plenty that he’s grateful for. WCTH Alum Shares Cancer Update
On Monday, December 23, John posted a surprising health update on Instagram. The Hudson & Rex star informed fans about his private battle with tonsil cancer. Two photos of the 49-year-old actor accompanied the post. The first showed him looking dapper in a black coat, while the second showed him struggling to catch his breath in the hospital.
John had something to celebrate. It was his first time going out since his cancer battle. He revealed that he had recovered from tonsil cancer. He no longer feels like the man in the second photo. “Has been a long road between these two pictures, and the difference is from the love and support I received from my people in my life,” John wrote.

In his lengthy message, the Hallmark Channel actor listed off those who helped him in his cancer journey. He started with his wife, Meghan Opry. John also credited his kids, who “inspired” him. Meanwhile, his father encouraged him to “get out of bed” with their daily walks. John thanked the rest of his family and the hospital staff who got him on the road to recovery.
The Gift of Kindness
Reardon wanted to share an important Christmas message with his fans. He learned a valuable lesson throughout his cancer journey. “Kindness is an underappreciated quality in people. We should never undervalue it. Celebrate it and distribute it as much as possible. It is free and life-changing. Happy Holidays 🫶🏻”
Hallmark fans took to John’s post to share prayers and well wishes for his health, especially in the new year. John appeared in Season 1 of When Calls the Heart. He played a fugitive gunslinger known as Nathaniel. John also starred in the 2024 Hallmark Christmas movie called Believe in Christmas alongside his wife.
