Max, who’s currently prioritizing opening his own hypnosis clinic in Bali sounded optimistic, for his part. “Relationship-wise, I still would love our path to continue together because there is no millions that can replace a woman like her,” the French deckhand said.
While Cathy admitted that she and Max have indeed “seen each other” since filming ended, she said it was only because they “happened to be in the same place for work.”
From there, she didn’t specifically say that the door was closed to a potential rekindling, but she didn’t explicitly say it was open, either. “Everyone we know tells me he always speaks very highly of me and has a great deal of respect for me,” she said, acknowledging that Max was very supportive when her stepfather died during the charter season. “I’ll always appreciate him for being there for me during one of the toughest times of my life.”
For now, though, “We have a friendship. We check in with each other. But Max is on his own path and needs clarity and happiness within himself before being able to share that with someone else,” Cathy concluded.
Why did Cathy Skinner and Max Salvador break up?
As so many boatmances go, the romance fizzled once filming wrapped
. In Cathy and Max’s case, both arranged for Max to visit Cathy in London before heading off to Bali, but according to Cathy, things ended soon after he flaked out mere hours before the plane’s takeoff.
“He sent me a very long message explaining that he couldn’t be exclusive and wasn’t ready for a relationship, as he had only recently broken up with his ex and hadn’t healed from that,” she told The Daily Dish. “He then asked me to come to Bali to see him, but I wasn’t willing to fly across the world for someone who couldn’t get on a short flight to London.”
One of the “incredibly disappointing” aspects of the failed meeting was that Cathy had spent “a lot of money preparing the house” in anticipation of his arrival, stocking up on toiletries and food and the like.
Max, however, remained steadfast in his commitment to work, per his own interview with The Daily Dish. He joked that women were from Mars and men were from Venus, adding that he believed the reason for their breakup was this: “I wanted to go and develop my online hypnosis clinic in Bali, but instead, she wants to stay in the UK.”
