Julie Chrisley, best known for her role on Chrisley Knows Best, has revealed she developed a serious lung condition during her 28-month stay at Federal Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky.

The 52-year-old reality TV star discussed the issue on the July 23 episode of her Chrisley Confessions 2.0 podcast, where she spoke candidly with her husband, Todd Chrisley.

Todd, who was also imprisoned for bank fraud and tax evasion, was pardoned earlier this year by former President Donald Trump.

According to Julie, she believes she was exposed to asbestos during her time in federal custody, although the condition has not yet been formally diagnosed.

She has scheduled an appointment with a pulmonologist to evaluate her health.

Federal Bureau of Prisons Responds

In a statement to Us Weekly, the Federal Bureau of Prisons emphasized their commitment to safety and humane treatment:

“We take seriously our duty to protect the individuals entrusted in our custody, as well as maintaining the safety of our employees and the community,” the Bureau said. “Humane treatment of men and women is our top priority.”

However, the Chrisley family has consistently raised concerns about prison conditions. Their daughter, Savannah Chrisley, previously claimed that her parents endured extreme temperatures, black mold, asbestos, and contaminated food during incarceration.

“They’re consuming food labeled ‘not for human consumption’… and you don’t know how that’s going to affect your health,” Savannah said in a 2023 interview with Fox News Digital.

Life After Prison: “Harder Than Being Locked Up”

Despite the hardships of prison, both Todd and Julie say reentering society has come with even greater emotional and psychological struggles.

“Life is rougher than prison life,” Todd confessed.
“It is so horrific, the conditions that you’re there for, but that’s from a physical standpoint. From an emotional and psychological standpoint, it is harder dealing with day-to-day.”

Julie echoed his thoughts, sharing that prison forced her to focus solely on herself for the first time in years.

“I had to take care of me. I had to make sure I was as good as I could be physically, mentally, spiritually, emotionally. And that’s all I could really do.”

Ongoing Health Battles

Julie, a breast cancer survivor who underwent a double mastectomy and hysterectomy in 2013, now faces yet another health challenge as she works with medical professionals to assess the condition of her lungs.

Although both Todd and Julie were convicted of financial crimes, they have maintained their innocence. Their recent release from prison has reignited public debate over prison conditions, healthcare, and inmate rights in the U.S. correctional system.
